Graveside services for Harvey Rudolph Blum, Sr., 75, of Killeen were held at 1:15 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 29 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio. Chaplain Robert Roberts officiated. Burial was with full military honors. Mr. Blum died Monday at his home in Killeen. Mr. Blum was born in Kenney on Feb. 1, 1912. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church at Phillipsburg and educated in Brenham. He retired from the U. S. Army in 1955 after 22 years of service, attaining the grade of chief warrant officer. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean conflict. His military awards include the Army Occupation Medal (European), the American Campaign Medal, the National Defense Medal, the World War II Victory Medal and the European, African and Middle East campaign medals. He was a self-employed rancher from 1955 to 1979 and was a charter member of the St. Andrew's Methodist Church of Killeen. Survivors include his wife, Lavalla Blum of Killeen, two sons, Harvey R. Blum, Jr. and Paul E. Blum, both of Killeen, his stepmother, Elsa Blum of Kenney, and two grandchildren. The family held visitation at the Crawford Bowers Funeral Home Chapel in Killeen from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday. Posted by Joy Neely |
