Mercy Cantu, a beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2024, at the age of 90. She was Born on September 24, 1933 in Waelder, Texas. Mercy led a life marked by love, resilience, and unwavering dedication to her children. Mercy was the daughter of Jose and Rosa Aguilar. She grew up in a close-knit family with many brothers and sisters. One of her favorite youthful pastimes was watching her brothers ride horses and spending time with her sisters.
She married Armando Cantu who passed away in 1975. Mercedes had 12 children, Alfredo Cantu, Joseph Cantu, Tony Cantu, Nora Guzman, Armando Cantu, Ray Cantu, Jesse Cantu, Norma Dimas, Amy Arriaga, Albert Cantu, Danny Cantu, and Victor Cantu. Mercy was a devoted mother, always putting her children first. As a grandmother, Mercedes found immense joy in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her home was a haven of warmth and love, where her grandchildren were always greeted with open arms and a heart full of love. Her passions included gardening, cooking, and quilting. Mercy had a green thumb, and her garden was a testament to her patience and care. Her homemade tamales were a favorite at family gatherings, and her quilts, crafted with love, are treasured heirlooms. Later on in life, she enjoyed praise and worship at church in Rosenberg with her children and in Houston with her grandson. She would lift her hands and enjoy the presence of God while tears rolled down her eyes. Mercy is preceded in death by her mother and father, and brothers. Her sons Alfredo, Joseph, and Daniel also precede her in death. She is survived by her children, Tony Cantu, Nora Guzman, Armando Cantu, Ray Cantu, Jesse Cantu, Norma Dimas, Amy Arriaga, Albert Cantu, Daniel Cantu, Victor Cantu, and grandchildren and great grandchildren A funeral service will be held at Knesek Funeral Home on June 1, 2024, at 10:00 AM, followed by interment at Guardian Angel Catholic Cemetery. Mercy Cantu's legacy of love, honesty, and resilience will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit lives on in the cherished memories she leaves behind. |
