Smesny, Melvin Charles
Obituary
2021
Melvin Charles Smesny was born January 7, 1941 and left this earth February 20, 2021.

He is survived by his beloved wife Larue Smesny, daughters Kimberly and Megan Smesny, and his three grandchildren Chase, Jacob and Emily Smesny. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Charles and Sidney Smesny, and Sisters Loretta Smesny and Charlene Buss.

He now celebrates in being reunited with his grandparents, and all his uncles, aunts, cousins and friends that went before him to prepare for his homecoming with the Lord.

He spent his school years in Sealy, TX, where he attended Immaculate Conception Catholic School and later graduated from Sealy High School.

He went on to serve three years in the United States Army and later moved to Houston with his parents.

His career started at Schill Steel Services as a dispatcher and later operations manager, where he met his wife of 45 years and after over 25 years of devoted service retired to be a full time pawpaw. He was a devout catholic, serving as an altar boy for many years and worked with his wife as ministers in preparing numerous families in the sacrament of baptism. He was very proud of his Czech heritage, an avid supporter for Houston Sports teams, a dedicated fisherman and he made sure to pass that pride onto his children and grandchildren. As much as he enjoyed fishing, tackle, boating and teaching his skills to others, he was the only fisherman who would not eat what he caught. Because of his love of bar-b-queuing, Melvin would put just about anything on the pit and passed that love on to his grandsons. He graciously collected artwork created by his granddaughter and displayed them proudly along with tons of pictures he took throughout the years in frames on his walls.

He loved his family beyond anything he ever did. No vacation, dinner out, birthday or celebration was ever spend without them. Although he has been wheelchair and bedridden for a while, his last week was spent making sure his family was safe and finally at home after the historic Houston snow storm, before he finally closed his own eyes to rest one last time. Melvin collected many names over his lifetime such as husband, dad, pawpaw, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend. He will be remembered for his meaningful conversations, firm handshakes, butterfly kisses and gentle heart. Sometime in the future when someone says that they miss our father or wish he was still around, as his daughters and grandchildren, we hope to say you are looking right at him because we are living the legacy he left behind.

The family would like to thank everyone for their support and outreach of kind words during this difficult time. Melvin loved supporting military events such as Wreaths Across America and we ask that you would please consider donating in his name.
