Alvena Raye McGraw, 84, of New Ulm, Texas, passed away on August 11, 2023 in New Ulm, Texas.
She was born on April 1, 1939 to John William Burkholder and Verna Raye (Hoover) Burkholder in Chambersburg, PA. Alvena enlisted and spent four years in the navy as a nurse where she met and married Phillip Bernard McGraw II, on May 25, 1969. She retired after working for 28 years as an oncology nurse at Memorial City Hospital in Houston, TX. She was a member of West End Baptist Church in Industry. Alvena enjoyed watching the Astros, reading, going out to eat with her friends and was a care giver to many. Alvena is survived by her daughter Robin Lynn Baugh of Katy; sister Donetta May Brunner of Savanna, Illinois; grandchildren Haley Baugh, Phillip McGraw IV, Mary McGraw, and Steven McGraw. She was preceded in death by her parents John Burkholder and Verna Burkholder; husband Phillip Bernard McGraw II; son Phillip Bernard McGraw III. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at 10:00 AM at West End Baptist Church in Industry, Texas with Pastor Dennis Keen officiating. Visitation at church will be from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM. Pallbearers are Troy Workman, Kerwin Brunner, Micah Wise, and Breck Bailey. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to West End Baptist Church, P.O. Box 67, Industry, TX 78944. |
