Arthur Twiggs, 80, retired salesman for Ben E. Keith distributing company, entered rest Sunday, June 1, 2008.
Homegoing celebration: Noon Saturday at Baker Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church, 1050 E. Humbolt St. Interment: Cedar Hill Memorial Park. Visitation: 1 to 8 p.m. Friday, with the wake 7 to 8 p.m., in the chapel of historic Baker Funeral Home. Arthur was born June 20, 1927, to the late Richard and Will Ida Slaughter Twiggs in Kenney. He attended Prairie View A&M University after completing high school. A fun-loving man known for his deep and booming laughter, Arthur was co-owner of Twiggs Cleaner for 20 years. He was a Budweiser salesman for 13 years before retiring. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Richard, Brady and Lee Artis Twiggs; and a sister. Survivors: His loving wife of 49 years, Mattie Twiggs; beloved daughter, Evelyn Twiggs Watkins; grandson, Erinn Leaon Watkins; brother-in-law, Patrick Coffee and sister-in-law, Melba Twiggs of Brenham; cousins, Patsy Ray Jackson (Jerry) of Shreveport, La., and Elsie Mae Caldwell; nephews, nieces and other family members; and a host of friends.
