William Floyd Davis “Ben” as he was affectionately called, was born on September 18, 1945 to the late Isom Davis Jr. and Sadie Smith-Davis. William was the eighth child of ten children born to this union. He grew up and attended church in the community of Raccoon Bend Bellville, Texas. There is where he developed a life long passion and love for fishing and fast cars.
He attended and graduated from Austin County High School, where he was an active member of the Football, Basketball, and Track teams. Ben became a father at the age of twenty-one and moved into the Houston area where he began a career in Retail Grocery, which ultimately lasted fifty-nine years. He excelled rapidly and quickly became a General Manager for Rice Food Markets, where he worked for forty-six years. In 2002 he was transferred to Fiesta Mart, LLC during a company acquisition, where he continued to perform as a Retail Grocery Manager, for an Additional thirteen years, before his retirement in late 2015. He has lived in the Hiram Clarke area for the last 45 years and became known to many of the area youth as “Paw Paw”. He has been a refuge and a guide to many teenagers and young individuals, who were down on their luck or otherwise had no place to go.
