King, Willie Mae
Obituary
2024
Willie Mae King was born in the Shoenau community between Industry and Shelby, Texas to the late Sammy Mahon Sr. and Elnora Ray Mahon. She was the fourth child of nine children to be blessed to this union.

On January 9, 1955 she married the love of her life, Howard King Sr. and seven children were blessed to the union. Willie Mae confessed her faith in Christ at an early age. She was a member of the Cherry Chapel United Methodist Church her entire life. She was current serving under the leadership of Reverend Robert Mays. Willie Mae served in several positions of her church; adult choir, women mission, planning committee and she played the tambourine. She was the mother of the church. Willie Mae loved her church family. For many years she sung in a gospel group called Silvertone Gospel Singers. They traveled many places, ministering in songs and praise worship.

Willie Mae attended Austin County and County Line school. She worked for Joe Franks sewing factory for many years and in skilled nursing facilities. Later in life she was a devoted private duty caregiver.

After retirement Willie Mae loved cooking for her family, friends, and church. She was a very active person, enjoying gardening, planting flowers, crocheting, making quilts, and loved canning fruits. She looked forward to selling some of her goods at the Black Gate in Round Top, Texas. Willie Mae was a very active member of the Adult Austin County 4-H Club where she participated in competition by submitting many of her crafts and canned items.

She loved being with her family on special occasions and holidays; her family was everything to her. She loved being pampered by her children, although everyone knew who was in charge. No matter how good or bad she felt, nothing stopped her from going shopping or eating out and she never got tired of going places.

Willie Mae is preceded in death by her parents; Sammy and Elanor Mahon, husband; Howard King Sr., one son; Derry Louis King, two sisters; Ethel McNeil, Nora Williams, four brothers; Jessie Mahon, Aron Mahon, Sammy Mahon Jr. and Michael Davis.
