Nelson Williams was born to Edgar & Evana Williams on June 20, 1946 in Eunice, Louisiana.
Nelson was baptized at an early age. He attended The Bridge Southwest Community Baptist Church until he moved to San Felipe, Texas. He then joined New Day Deliverance Church under the leadership of Reverend Anthony Ray Dabney, Jr. were he was an active member until his health began to decline. Nelson worked in the church by helping with maintenance and gardening. He began working at a very early age, where he would help his father mow yards after school. He retired from Daniels Industries where he had been employed for 30+ years. After being retired for 8 years his passion for working led him to Royal ISD, where he worked as a district courier and bus monitor. He loved what he did and working with the kids. His love knew no bounds extending to all who were fortunate enough to know him. His kindness touched countless lives, and his generosity knew no limits. On January 20, 2007, Nelson Williams married the love of his life, Ms. Helen Dabney. They became a blended family of 9, Nelson bringing to the family 5 children and Helen having 2. Nelson cherished the time he had with his wife, children and grandchildren. He and Helen were avid travelers, especially when it came to cruises, where they visited many destinations. In his spare time he loved to fish, hunt, garden and experiment with raising all kinds of animals. His family would always tease him about having his own little farm. Nelson loved to do fish fries and cook gumbo just so he could get the family together. He had a special bond with his grandson, Jahkai, who was more like a son. He helped with raising him from a baby where he taught him so many life lessons, such as fishing, how to fix many things and even how to skin a deer by himself. On Wednesday, February 21, 2024, Nelson was called home to glory at home surrounded by his loved ones. He is preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Evana Williams and his grandparents. Nelson leaves to cherish his precious memories his devoted wife, Helen Williams, five sons, Derrick Dabney (Misekia), Nelson Williams II, Michael Williams, Marcus Williams and Jahkai Gonzales; three daughters, ShaRhonda Hall (Gene), Natalie Guillory (Louis) and Stephanie James; brother, Selvester Williams, sisters, Louisiana Hill and Susie Williams; 1 uncle, Elmo Morehead; 19 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Earnest Dabney (Icey), James Dabney, sister-in-law’s, Hazel Bolden (Prenis), Doris Polk and Judy Wilborn; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. |
