Glenda Gordon, age 81, of Eagle Lake, Texas, passed away on Friday, January 26, 2024, at home with family.
Glenda was born to Arthur “Snow” and Mary Lucille Gordon on September 26, 1942, and grew up in Damon, Texas. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, her brother Thomas, her brother Gary, and her former husband Lawrence Zaruba. Glenda is survived by her daughter Janet Zaruba Launarey, her son-in-law Randy Crist, and her beloved grandson Brooks Launarey who will cherish the many special memories made over the years. Known for her beauty and quick–sometimes irreverent–-wit, Glenda’s teenage years were filled with cheerleading, volleyball, laughter, and fun. Following her graduation from Needville High School, Glenda attended the University of Texas at Austin where she cultivated a lifelong calling as a Longhorn sports fan. She graduated from the University of Houston before serving in education as a public school teacher in Fort Bend and Alief ISDs. After obtaining her master's from Sam Houston State University, Glenda became a counselor at Alief Hastings High School until retirement. After moving to Lakeway near Austin, Glenda taught English to emerging bilingual students and continued to be involved in activities to promote scholarships in higher education. To remain active, she volunteered at Dell Diamond for the Round Rock Express to provide hospitality to visiting teams. Even without a winning hand, she enjoyed gambling in Vegas and Biloxi. Visitation will be held at Knesek’s Funeral Home (768 4th St, Sealy) on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at 2 p.m. followed by a short memorial service and eulogy. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation or to the charity of your choice. |
