Patsy Ekarius Novosad of Sealy passed away on March 19, 2024, at 72 years of age after hard fought battle with cancer. She was born on January 27, 1952, in Sealy, Texas, to parents Elmo and Oridell Ekarius. Patsy celebrated her 50th wedding anniversary with her husband David on December 23, 2023.
Patsy was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sealy, Texas. A lifetime member of Trinity, Patsy taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She also served on the Preschool Board at Trinity. In addition to her church service, Patsy was a member of the Board of Directors of the Virgil Gordon Memorial Library in Sealy and a member of Delta Kappa Gamma from 1998-2011. Patsy attended the Sealy schools, graduating in 1970. After graduating from Sealy, she earned her Associate of Arts from Blinn Jr. College and then earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Sam Houston State University in May 1973. That fall, she began a 32-year career teaching elementary school in Sealy, primarily teaching second grade, which she dearly loved. Patsy coached UIL storytelling, and for the last five years of her career, she coached junior high and high school tennis. For more than 50 years, tennis was one of Patsy’s greatest loves. She played as an athlete at Sealy High School and Blinn College. She was a member of the Sealy Tennis League. She began giving private lessons after her children were born and later conducted tennis camps and gave private lessons. She followed the Sealy tennis teams well after her retirement, and she was excited to introduce the sport she loved to the granddaughter she loved. Patsy’s greatest passions were her family, whether it was traveling together or just spending time together, tennis, and gardening. Patsy was preceded in death by her parents, Elmo and Oridell Ekarius, and brother Wayne Ekarius. Patsy is survived by her husband David; son Heath, his wife Katie and their daughter Arya; and by son Brent, his wife Ashley, and their child due in April 2024; brother Vernon and his wife Bev; brother Charles and wife Boopie; sister Lois and husband Cyril; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and those whose lives she touched as a teacher, coach, mentor and friend. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be given to Trinity Lutheran Church of Sealy, Texas. |
