Research Note
My great great grandmother is buried in the Bovine Bend (sometimes called Bluff) Cemetery. Her tombstone simply has “Mrs. M. L. H. Harry wife of M. L. H. Harry.” However, her maiden name was Elizabeth ‘Betsy’ Pryor. She was the youngest daughter of William Pryor and Betsy Green Trammell, one of Austin’s Old 300 Families. At 13 years of age, she first married William Taylor Roberts, son of Noel Francis Roberts and Highley Carter, another of Austin’s Old 300 Families. William Taylor Roberts fought in the Battle of San Jacinto and Elizabeth walked the battlefield with him the next day. She had just turned 15 and was carrying her first born son, Churchill Fulshear Roberts, “on her hip.”

She later gave birth to James Calhoun Roberts (my great grandfather), Elizabeth and William Taylor Jr. William Taylor Sr. died in July 1849. Elizabeth later married M. L. H. Harry, a young hired hand working for her. They moved to Bovine Junction, later named Wallis, and had three daughters; Harriet Catherine, Amanda Elizabeth and Sarah Sophia Harry. Mrs. M. L. H. Harry died on 5 April 1885 but Elizabeth Pryor of the Old 300 lives on.
