Funeral services for Helen Kurtz, 89, of Sealy at 2 pm Sunday, February 21, 2016, in the Sealy Cemetery, with Rev. Kevin Haug officiating.
The former Miss Helen Lucile Schroeder was born on November 7, 1926 in Bellville to parents, Alfred and Hilda Rudloff Schroeder. She was raised in Bellville and graduated from Bellville High School in 1944. Helen married Ollie Kurtz on June 17, 1944 in Bellville. She was active in church work at St. John Lutheran Church in Bellville teaching Sunday school for 26 years, sang in church choir, was a member of Ladies Aide and served as parish secretary for pastors C.H. Rose, Willard Rother and Willie Rotter. Her special interest in her church was as youth director. After she and Ollie moved to Sealy, they joined St. John Lutheran Church in Cat Spring where she continued teaching Sunday school and was a member of Ladies Aide. She enjoyed gardening, art work, needle work, reading and bird watching. Helen died Thursday, February 18, 2016 in Sealy. Survivors include her daughter, Cheryl Kole and husband, Ed, of Richmond; son, Mark Kurtz of Houston; grandchildren, Tessa Anne Kole and husband, Paul Adams, Keely Dawn Vazquez and husband, Juan, and Kelsey Elaine Kurtz; great-grandsons, Jaxon Vazquez and Blake Burke. She was preceded in death by parents, Alfred and Hilda Schroeder; husband, Ollie Kurtz; and sister, Jeanette Rinn. Knesek Funeral Home in Sealy in charge of arrangements. |
