Mary Jo Johnson, 71, of Sealy, Texas, passed away Friday, January 29, 2010, in Sealy, Texas. Mary Jo was born on July 29, 1938 in Greenville, Texas to Charlie Eli and Irene (Martin) Bunton. She earned a degree in Business and Decorating. Mary Jo married Sam Johnson on February 14, 1973 in Houston, Texas. Sam and Mary Jo worked actively in building and development in the Houston area for over 50 years before moving into Austin County in 1991. Mary Jo was the Broker/Realtor for The Real Estate Company in Sealy for the past 10 years, and an active member of Christian City Fellowship. Having survived a mid-air plane crash in December of 1965, she went on to serve the community of Sealy in many ways. She was the past president of the Sealy Chamber of Commerce serving in 1999, 2004, and 2005, and she also served as president of the Blue Blazers. Many friends believed that Sam was Mary Jo's soul mate.
She was preceded in death by her parents; step-father, J. O. Whitley; and three brothers, Frank Bunton, Charles Bunton, and Bert Bunton. She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Sam Johnson of Sealy, Texas; sister, Nancy Huff and husband, Leroy, of Midlothian, Texas; sisters-in-law, Margarite Bunton of Midlothian, Texas, Ann Rabb of Sealy, Texas, and Rachel Curlee of Spring, Texas; nieces, Susan Bradley and husband, Eddie, of Dallas, Texas, and Barbara Stites and husband, Dale, of Midlothian, Texas; nephews, Scott Huff and wife, Chris, and Steve Huff, all of Midlothian, Texas, and Gordon Scheele and wife, Sara, of Spring, Texas; great-nieces, Andrea Heeb and husband, Jeff, of Lincoln, Nebraska and Rhnea Hamrick of Midlothian, Texas; and a cousin, Norma Wilkinson and husband, Gordon, of Winnsboro, Texas. Visitation Sunday, January 31, 2010, at the Knesek Bros Hwy 36 Chapel. Funeral services conducted at 2 PM Monday, February 1, 2010, from the Christian City Fellowship, 5243 Hwy 36, in Sealy, Texas, with Pastor Rusty Griffin officiating. A private interment followed in the Sealy Cemetery. Pallbearers were Steve Huff, Scott Huff, Steve Johnson, Corky Flores, Gary Chaney, Eddie Bradley, Gordon Scheele, and J. D. Divin. Memorials may be made to the Sealy Cemetery Beautification Fund, P. O. Box 1142, Sealy, Texas 77474. Sam would like to thank the family, relatives, and close friends and those who were apart of Mary Jo's life. |
