Janda, Diane Kaye
Obituary
2018
The Sealy News, March 22, 2018:

Diane Kaye Janda passed away peacefully Monday, March 19, 2018 at Methodist Hospital in Houston with her husband and children by her side. She was a loving mom to her three boys, the best Granny to her four grandchildren, and a devoted wife to her husband Jerry for more than 53 years. Diane was 74 years old and a lifelong resident of Sealy, the small town she loved dearly.

Diane was born July 24, 1943 in Sealy, TX to parents Louis and Evelyn Hluchan. She attended Sealy public schools and graduated in 1961. "Duck", as she was affectionately known by her husband and close friends, was active in many school organizations and played volleyball, basketball and tennis. She graduated Phi Theta Kappa from Blinn College in 1963.

Diane met Jerry in 1958 and the two started dating soon after. She married her high school sweetheart on May 3, 1964 and they continued to be by each other's side for the remainder of her life. The two built a life together in their hometown of Sealy, TX. Hard work and dedication helped them to build the house of their dreams in 1969. It was in this same home that they raised their three boys Chris, Brett, and Mark and where she continued to live for almost 50 years. The family celebrated many birthdays and enjoyed Christmas gatherings and dinners which were organized and cooked by Diane to show her love for her family and friends.

As a young woman, Diane held bookkeeping positions at Ewens Buick Chevrolet of Sealy and the Galloway car dealership in Bellville. She spent the next several years raising her three young boys while serving as co-owner of the Gum Drop Tree Day Care Center. Here she welcomed many of Sealy's very own children into their doors to begin their early years. She continued her love for working with kids as a library aide at Sealy ISD. The students at school grew to love their visits with Mrs. Janda in the library. She could be found cheering these same students on at sporting events and extracurricular activities. Aside from serving at Sealy ISD, Diane volunteered at sporting events, her kids' and grandkids' school activities, and was a member of Catholic Daughters for over 50 years. She and Jerry were members of Immaculate Conception Church in Sealy.

Diane was a devoted wife and loving mother who raised three sons to be good Christians and model citizens. She supported and attended every activity her boys ever participated in, and she showed this same support for her grandchildren. Granny tried not to miss any event that Zach, Morgan, Cailyn or Chace were part of. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy.

Diane enjoyed many hobbies including reading and gardening. She loved to take long country rides with Jerry and Friday night Mexican food dinners with friends. Her love for travel extended to road trips across much of the U.S. through family vacations. She visited much of the United States, all without ever setting foot on an airplane. Summer vacations were often spent at the lake or beach with family and friends. She enjoyed canning and pickling fresh local produce each spring. She made some of the best pickles in town!

Diane is survived by her husband of 53 years, Jerry Janda; her beloved children and grandchildren: Chris and his wife Theresa and their children Zach & Morgan of Katy; Brett and Renee and their children Cailyn and Chace of Katy, and Mark and Brent Grelle of Houston. She is also survived by her sister Beverly Ekarius and husband Charles; brother Bubba Hluchan and wife Evelyn.

She was preceded in death by her parents Louis and Evelyn Hluchan and step-father Woodrow Hluchan.

A funeral mass was held March 24 at Immaculate Conception Church in Sealy, with Father Eric Pitre officiating. A graveside service was held the same day at the Sealy Cemetery. Services were held under the direction of Knesek Bros. Funeral Home, 768 4th St., Sealy, Texas, 979-885-3535, www.knesekfuneralhome.com.

Those wishing to make memorial contributions may do so to the American Heart Association or charity of your choice. The family would like to express our sincere thanks for all your kindness, friendship, and prayers during our time of loss.
