Leroy Hintz of Sealy, Texas passed away on September 9, 2016. He was 88 years old. Mr. Hintz was born November 30, 1927, the son of Jake and Mary Hintz.
He attended public school in Sealy where he participated in FFA and was part of the football team that won Bi-District in 1943. Mr. Hintz graduated from Sealy High School in 1945, joining the U. S. Army shortly thereafter. He served in the 97th AAA Battalion in Hawaii as an antiaircraft crewman and was honorably discharged in August of 1947. After returning home, Leroy began working at the Katy Gas Cycling Plant, which was owned by the Humble Oil and Refining Company, a predecessor of today's Exxon Mobile Corp. He retired from Exxon Mobile in 1986 as Plant Superintendent of the Katy Gas Plant. Mr. Hintz was married to Adelle Ruth Maresh on October 8, 1950. He was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church of Sealy, serving as an elder, as treasurer, and on various committees. He had also been active in the Athletic Booster Club of Sealy High School, served as an adult leader and Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop #557, and had been on the Board of Trustees of Sealy ISD. Mr. Hintz had very fond memories of growing up in the Sealy area and especially enjoyed his time working with the Boy Scouts. However, his family was his greatest pleasure. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Adelle Maresh Hintz; sons, David, Curtis, and Michael Hintz; daughter-in-law, Sheila Morrison Hintz; and grandchildren, Kevin and Courtney Hintz. He is also survived by brother-in-law, Irvin Koeppen; sister-in-law, Johnnie Ruth Maresh; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Mr. Hintz was preceded in death by his parents, Jake and Mary Hintz; brothers, Eugene and Harold Hintz; and sisters, Florine Quinton and Bessie Koeppen; along with the spouses of Eugene and Florene; and other in-laws. Funeral services Thursday, September 15, 2016, First Presbyterian Church of Sealy at 10:00 am, with Rev. Ken Richter officiating.
