Suzanne McEntee Cuthbertson, 82, of Houston, TX passed away Monday, July 14, 2014.
Mrs. Cuthbertson was born January 5, 1932 in New York, New York to Joseph & Suzanne McEntee. She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Joseph McEntee and her husband, James P. Cuthbertson. Suzanne is survived by her daughters, Denise Cuthbertson, Jeanine Hart & husband Skip, Cecile Cassidy; grandchildren, Lauren Bird & husband Wayne Scheerer, Brett Bird & wife Kate, Sonia Arreaga; great grandchildren, Allyson, Bailey, Taylor & James; brothers-in-law, Jack Cuthbertson & wife Louise, Bob Cuthbertson & wife Laurie. She is also survived by her loyal family friend Donna Avolio. Suzanne grew up in the Bronx’s section of New York City. She attended Catholic elementary and high school where she graduated at age 14 and began her college studies in Education. She was awarded a full scholarship at Hunter College where she attained her Master’s degree in Education. During a career that spanned over five decades she was at the forefront of the fight to insure persons with special needs the right to an equal education and worked tirelessly to get inclusion brought into mainstream schools. Perhaps her greatest achievement was her founding of the Arbor School; a wonderful school for children with special needs. She never turned away a child, no matter how severe the disability. Suzanne raised three daughters of her own, but also opened her home and her heart to many young people in need of a loving home. She is deeply loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed. The Cuthbertson family will be present to receive friends Thursday, July 17, 2014 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Dettling Funeral Home, 14094 Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77079. The Funeral Mass will commence Friday, July 18, 2014 at 10:30 AM at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 625 Nottingham Oaks Trail, Houston, TX 77079. Interment services will follow at 12:30 PM at Sealy Cemetery, 768 4th Street, Sealy, TX 77474.
