Joanne "Jo" Kathryn Sweet Brown was born in Gloversville, N.Y. on September 25, 1955. She went to be with the Lord on October 29, 2015 at the age of 60. She graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Houston in 1973. Jo was a dedicated employee at Randall's for many years and worked in the retail industry all her adult life.
Jo won the fight against cancer over 10 years ago with the support of the doctors, nurses, and staff at University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. She was a Certified Picture Framer and won many awards for her work at art shows. Her hobbies were anything that she could do with her hands which included silk flower arrangements, origami, calligraphy, quilting, crocheting, knitting, and even tatting which is almost a lost art. She was always making something and giving it away. She was a very talented person. Her love of her life was her cats. They were her children. She was a true animal rescuer and would do anything to save a cat. She left behind 5 cats who will be looking for new homes with a cat rescue or family friends. Joanne is preceded in death by her father, Arch L. Sweet. She is survived by her mother, Kathryn Sweet; brother, David Sweet; and sister, Mary Ann Sweet. Services are under the direction of Knesek Funeral Services, in their chapel at 768 4th Street, Sealy, Texas. A viewing will be held on Saturday, November 7th, 2015, at 10:00 A.M. with services following at 11:00 A.M. Interment will be in the Sealy Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to UTMB in Galveston, 301 University Blvd, Galveston, TX 77555 or the charity of your choice. |
