Raymond Lethel Britt passed away on Monday, June 23, 2014, at the age of 61 years. He was born on August 24, 1952, in Tucson, Arizona, to Lethel Garner and Wanda Mae Holt Britt.
Ray began his career back in 1977 working for Sohio on the North Slope of Alaska at Prudhoe Bay, which eventually became BP. Ray's passion was always in the health and safety field. He had over 35 years of professional experience in this field in the oil/gas E&P industry. His experiences with BP spanned from the Alaskan North Slope to the deepwater exploration and development in the Gulf of Mexico. He was the BP Group, Safety and Operational Risk Sr. Safety Advisor when he retired with them in 2012. He then went to work for Cobalt International Energy, where he was a Sr. HSSE Advisor until his death. Ray's other passion was his home environment. He loved gardening and piddling around his large yard at home in Sealy, Texas. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Paula; sons, Brandon and Tyler and his wife Lory Beth; father Lethel G Britt; mother Wanda M. Britt; sister Susan Craig and her husband Ron; and, from a previous marriage, daughter, Alicia, as well as other extended loving family members and friends. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 27, 2014, at the Schmidt Funeral Home Chapel, in Katy. Memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 28, 2014, at St. Peter's United Methodist Church, 20775 Kingsland Blvd., Katy, Texas 77450, with Rev. Kim Meyers Poer officiating. Interment will be private. The family would like to thank the caregivers of Memorial Hermann Hospice for their love and care.
