The Sealy News, February 19, 2020:
Charles William Bretschneider passed away on February 10, 2020 at his home in Sealy, TX at the age of 85. Charles was born on May 1, 1934 in Cat Spring, TX to Walter and Leona Bretschneider. He graduated from Bellville High School and Blinn Jr. College. While in college, Charles worked on the construction of FM 1094 from Cat Spring to New Ulm. On August 28, 1955, Charles married Doris Louise Bishop, his high school sweetheart. It was a match made in heaven! They lived 65 wonderful years together and were blessed with 3 children. After graduation from Blinn, they moved to Houston, TX where Charles began working for Wyatt Industries manufacturing pressure vessels for refineries. He was an Estimator in the sales department and later moved to the transportation department. During the steel crisis in the 1980's, Wyatt Industries closed, and Charles went to work for Spring Branch School District where he headed the Special Education Transportation Division. Later, Wyatt re-opened as Wyatt Field Services, and Charles rejoined the team as an Estimator until retirement. Charles made several moves during his life, from Cat Spring to Bellville, then Houston, then Katy, and then to Sealy. After retirement, Charles and Doris lived their dream traveling all over the world. Their "4th child" Sammy, and adorable Maltese, went everywhere! Floyd and Terri Hurry were their long-time camping buddies and travel companions; they met when Linda and Danny were in kindergarten and took family vacations throughout the years. Their most memorable trip was the Christmas market river boat cruise on the Rhein River in Germany. They also explored the East Coast, West Coast, Canada, and Middle America in their RV, but their favorite place was Ouray, Colorado! Charles enjoyed raising cattle on the family property in Cat Spring which became a family tradition. He loved tractors, trains, and lawn mowers, and was a man who was always ready to help anyone fix, build, repair, or install anything. Charles loved music. He played the piano by ear, and his repertoire included ragtime and hymns. He played the trombone in high school and was a member of the school's jazz band. He loved polka music, especially Mollie B's music and shows. Some of their weekend travels included attending Mollie B's polka parties and the annual trip to Wurstfest in New Braunfels. Charles is survived by his loving wife, Doris; children, Danny Bretschneider and wife, Kelly, Cheryl Spivey, and Danette Cudd; grandchildren, J.D. Spivey, Stephen Spivey (Azia), Ryan Bretschneider, Justin Cudd, Macy Bretschneider-Winkler (Joe), Katelyn Spivey, and Kayla Cudd; great-grandchildren, Jakub (Stephen & Azia), and one on the way (Katelyn); sister-in-law, Danna Harms and husband, Scott; and numerous other family and friends. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Leona. His children remember him as a kind, loving, patient, and gentle father. Although the quiet hero is gone, the legacy he left will live forever in the hearts of those he touched. Special thanks to the Vantage Hospice staff, and to Sharon Cudd and Azia for being Doris' guardian Angels as they always appeared at times of need. Visitation was held on Friday, Feb. 14, 2020, at Knesek Bros. Funeral Chapel located at 768 Fourth St., Sealy. The funeral service was held at Knesek Bros. Funeral Chapel on Saturday, Feb. 15. Brother Mike Groseclose officiated the service which was followed by a graveside at Sealy Cemetery. Flowers are appreciated or donations may be made to an Alzheimer's association of your choice. |
