Myrle Dee Grubbs Benton, 94 of Kyle, passed away on Thursday, February 20, 2020.
Myrle Dee Grubbs Benton died February 20, 2020, at Orchard Park of Kyle. Myrle was born in Houston, Texas October 28, 1925. The youngest of four and only girl, Myrle grew up in the Heights neighborhood of Houston and loved spending weekends and summers at her family’s bay house near Kemah. She attended Sam Houston State Teachers College and then taught third grade in Sealy where she met her husband, Orville Benton. They were married August 8, 1949 and moved to Weatherford for one year before returning to Sealy. Myrle taught elementary and junior high school for many years in Sealy and Brookshire. When she retired from teaching, Myrle owned an antiques store in Sealy and volunteered at the Sealy Area Historical Society, Sealy Christian Food Pantry, and Gordon Memorial Library. She enjoyed taking road trips with her husband and their daughter and grandchildren and was a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, Daughters of the American Revolution, and Colonial Dames, as well as Sealy United Methodist Church. She is survived by her granddaughter, Lauren Flake and husband Travis of Buda, her grandson, Scott Russell Stucky of Austin, her great-granddaughters, Samantha and Charlotte Flake of Buda, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She is predeceased by her daughter, Dixie Benton Stucky, and husband, Orville Russell Benton. |
