Arnold Havemann of Wallis, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2020, at the age of 89, in his home. Arnold was born in Fayetteville, Texas to Willie and Emelia (Wuench) Havemann. He was the fourth of five children.

Arnold left home at the age of 12, where he became a ranch hand for Charles Kaechele Ranch in Wallis. He worked there until he was drafted into the United States Army in 1952, stationed in California where he served his country as an Anti-Aircraft operator until 1954 when he was honorably discharged.

After his army discharge, he was employed by several ranches, including Freddy Schluenz Brahmans, showing Brahman cattle at many shows. Arnold was also employed at Barrett Feed in Bellville, as well as, Duval Sulpher Company in Orchard, WKM in Missouri City, Wallis Grist Mill, and Bar None Feeds. He then retired in 1993 to be a full-time rancher.

Arnold loved horses and was an avid rider. He was a member of the Austin County Saddle Club where he served as Trail Boss, and also for the Austin County Fair Ride to Bellville that would start in Wallis. He also rode with the Austin County Saddle Club Square Dancers on horseback.

Arnold met the love of his life, Gloria Abel, when she began working at Barrett Feed in 1955. They were married on June 22, 1957 at St. John Lutheran Church in Bellville. To this union, two children were born, Charles Arnold Havemann and Tracy Kim Havemann Semmler. Arnold and Gloria enjoyed 63 years of wedded bliss. They lived in Sealy and then moved to Wallis where he began his cattle operation.

Arnold was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Wallis. He was also a member of the Wallis American Legion.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Emelia Havemann; parents-in-law, Andrew and Birdie Abel; sister, Katie, and brother-in-law, Homer Goodson; brothers, Harry, Walter, and Alfred Havemann; sisters-in-law, Pat Abel and Sheryl Abel.

A memorial service will be held in Arnold’s memory on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2020, at the Wallis American Legion Hall from 2 – 5 p.m.
