Allen Earl Garling, 90, went to be with the Lord on Friday, February 4, 2022. He was born June 18, 1931 to John L. and Alice Garling in Austin County near Sealy, Texas. Allen grew up and lived most of his life in Bellville. He went to a rural public school in Peters, Hacienda district, and Bellville High School. Allen was drafted into the United States Army in December 1952. He took basic training at Fort Bliss in El Paso and served for two years. After basic training, he was placed into the 591st M.P. Company where he served in the M.P. Motor Pool as a mechanic until he was Honorably Discharged as a Corporal in December 1954.

Allen married his love, Frances Henske, on November 19, 1953 in the New Wehdem Lutheran Church. They made their home in Bellville and had two children, Debra and Royce. Allen had numerous jobs throughout his early life. He was later employed as a truck driver and crew leader for 31 years with the State of Texas Department of Highways and Public Transportation (TxDOT).

Allen is survived by his children, Debra Sandell of Columbus, and Royce Garling and his wife, Elana, of Bellville; grandchildren, Amanda Justus and her husband, Heath, of Columbus, James Janik and his wife, Shelley, of Bernardo, David Janik, and his wife, Jill, of El Campo, and Weston Garling of Bellville; great-grandchildren, Hayley Janik, Zachary Janik, Kayla Janik, Coltyn Janik, and Nathan Garamillo; sister, Carrie Steinbach of Sealy; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances; parents, John and Alice Garling; sister, Alberta Grawunder; brother, John Garling; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Henry Grawunder, Edgar Steinbach, Henry and Gladys Tiemann, Herbert and Ruth Emshoff, and Raymond and Hattie Engeling.

Allen was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church where he was baptized and confirmed. He served on the council twice and numerous years as an usher. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 115 where he served as commander, adjutant, and Chaplain. He was also a member of the Sons of Hermann, serving as president and trustee for many years.

Allen loved his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and special friends. He was always a happy person when they surrounded him. Allen will be missed by many in and around this community.

Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, February 10, 2022, from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Schmidt Funeral Home, 12029 Hwy. 36 South, Bellville, Texas. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, February 11, 2022, at St. John Lutheran Church, 520 North Holland in Bellville. Burial will be in Oak Knoll Cemetery. Pallbearers are Glenn Horndt, Malcolm Dittert, Nathan Zanek, Gary Grawunder, John Steinbach, and Dennis Tipton. Honorary pallbearers are James Janik, David Janik, and Weston Garling.
