2019
Bennie Jerry Kanak, age 87, of Wallis, Texas, passed away peacefully at his home on April 2, 2019. Bennie was born in Wallis, Texas to Edward and Albina (Hranicky) Kanak on August 21, 1931 and was the oldest of six children. Bennie married the love of his life, Mary Albares, on December 3, 1965 and together made their home in Wallis with their two children, Wanda and Bennie, Jr.
In 1955, Bennie enlisted in the United States Army and served two years of active duty as a light weapons infantryman and another four years with the Texas National Guard and Army Reserve as a Track Vehicle Mechanic. He worked at Duval Sulphur in Orchard, Texas as a roughneck and retired as an independent carpenter in the late 1980s. Bennie loved to fish, build things and looked forward to his morning coffee at D & M Texaco where he visited with his friends before making his rounds to his farm. He was a good story teller and loved to eat steak. Although he liked to give his grandkids a hard time, he most enjoyed spending time with them and telling them stories about his time in the Army. Bennie was a member of the Guardian Angel Catholic Church and a member of the Wallis Knights of Columbus and KJT. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary; daughter, Wanda and husband, Kenneth Kovar; son, Bennie Junior and wife, Lisa; grandchildren, Savanah Kovar, Sierra Kovar, Travis Kovar, and Ethan Kanak. Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, April 7, 2019, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Guardian Angel Catholic Church, 5518 Demel Street, Wallis, Texas. A Rosary will begin at 5:00 PM. A funeral mass will be held at Guardian Angel Catholic Church at 9:30 AM on Monday, April 8, 2019. Burial will be in the church cemetery. |
