George Gallia, 89 of Sealy, passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at his home in Sealy.
George Gallia was born in Orchard, Texas on February 11, 1931 to Vince Sr. and Mary Uhyrek Gallia. He graduated from Orchard High School in 1948. He enlisted in the US Navy where he served for two years, then served in the US Navy Reserve for five years. He attended Wharton County Junior College for two years, where he studied aeronautical engineering. He worked for Natural Gas Pipeline for twenty years as a heavy equipment operator. He owned and operated Gallia Truck Line for many years and then drove long-distance for Safety-Kleen Systems until he retired in 2002. He was a member of the 3rd and 4th Degree of the Knights of Columbus, where he served as a Faithful Navigator. George is survived by his wife and children. George married Tillie Owczarzak on June 28, 1953 in Guardian Angel Church in Wallis, Texas. They were blessed with four children, Sharon Mersmann (Michael), Brenda Cerny (Melvin), Glenn Gallia (Jennifer), and Steven Gallia (Lilac); 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and 11 siblings. George will be remembered for his big blue eyes, smile, and contagious laugh. He dearly loved his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and dominoes. He could play eighty-eight for hours and made sure he always had the last bid (no matter how high the bid was). He was known for his ever-ready supply of stories and jokes and was ready to share them with anybody who would listen. Even though he endured so many illnesses and surgeries, he always remained optimistic and cheerful. George will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. May he rest in peace. Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, March 4, 2020, from 10:00 AM until 10:30 AM at Guardian Angel Catholic Church, 5518 Demel Street, Wallis, Texas 77483.
