Phyllis M. Sams, age 91, passed away on May 17, 2022 in Cat Spring, Texas. She was born to Walter Edward and Esther Alberta (Doerschlag) Brownfield on September 8, 1930 in St. Mary's, Kansas. She married Charles H. Sams on August 21, 1949.
Phyllis served as an administrative assistant to Drs. Greggory and Bullock, M.D. for many years. Phyllis loved to paint, gifting beautiful landscapes to family and friends. She enjoyed the outdoors, playing bridge and cooking, especially ribs. She volunteered with Boys and Girls Country, gardened and raised her three wild boys. Her favorite thing was traveling, especially by cruise ship to the islands. She was the coordinator for many years for 'Young At Heart', a travel organization for seniors. She ferried her groups to many different destinations, their favorite being Hawaii. She was very involved with Lifebridge Community Church and the Sealy Christian Food Pantry. Phyllis was preceded in death by: her parents, Walter and Esther Brownfield; and sister-in-law, Patricia Brownfield. Phyllis is survived by: her husband of 72 years, Charlie Sams of Cat Spring, TX; sons, Mark Sams and wife Trish of Sealy, TX, Jay Sams and wife Marla of Cat Spring, TX and Kent Sams and wife Linda of Katy, TX; grandchildren, Erin Hill and husband Jarden, Allison Brannan and husband Doug, Phyllis Sams, Jason Sams and wife Shae, Melanie Hammelman and husband Connor, Stephanie Heath and husband Sean and Kaitlyn Sams; great-grandchildren, Jeremih Hill, Charlotte and Grace Brannan, Blaize Sams, Marley Sams, Carson and Annabelle Hammelman, Victoria Carter and Sean Heath, Jr.; and brother, Dean Brownfield of Joplin, MO. Funeral services will be Saturday, May 21, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus, TX with Pastor Scott Heitshusen officiating. Burial will follow in Sealy City Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Friday, May 20, 2022 from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM, also at Henneke Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers: Jason Sams, Dave Penner, Neil Brownfield, Alfred Tomasek, Danny James and Rolando Alaniz. Memorials may be made in Phyllis's name to Lifebridge Community Church, P.O.
