Elizabeth “Bitty” Ellen Wendt was called home to be with the Lord on the 20th day of November 2013 in Columbus surrounded by her loving family. Bitty was born in Salado, Texas. But later moved to Temple, Texas where she graduated from Temple High School. On June 2, 1951, Bitty was united in Marriage to C.W. Wendt at which time they made their home in Bellville. Bitty was a lifelong member of The Church of Christ. In 1980 they moved to Columbus and made it their home. Bitty has traveled from Niagara Falls to the state of Oregon, from Georgia all the way to her favorite state, Colorado. She enjoyed taking long walks and exploring the beauty of God’s creation. Bitty was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Veadth (Fuller) Goodnight. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, C.W. Wendt of Columbus,, sister Barbara Ratjen and husband Charles of Brazoria, brother James Goodnight Jr. and wife Ony of Bellville, daughter, Linda English and husband Greg of Columbus, sons, Ray Wendt and wife Sugar, Clarence “Butch” Wendt Jr. and wife Deborah, and Randy Wendt, all of Bellville. Also survived by granddaughters Sara Wendt and Rachael Blasig, step-granddaughters Brittany Trochez and Brandy Dobias, grandsons, Stephen, Nathan, Jason, Christopher, and Wesley Wendt, nine great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews as well as other family members and a host of dear friends. Visitation was Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013 from 5-7 p.m. and Sunday, noon to 2 p.m. at Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus. Funeral services was Sunday, Nov. 24, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus with Pastor Wesley C. Cogburn officiating. Burial was in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery in Bellville. Pallbearers were Stephen, Nathan, Jason, and Christopher Wendt, Chuck and Alan Ratjen, Scott Blasig, and Carlos Trochez. Memorials may be given to Milam Street Church of Christ, 815 Milam St. Columbus, TX 78934 or Standards Home Health and Hospice, 602 North Travis St., Cameron, TX 76520.
