JUDGE WEHRING DIES After a period of gradually failing health, death came to Judge R. B. Wehring, for the past quarter of a century justice of the peace of Austin county precinct No. 1, at 5:50 a.m. Thursday, December 20. The kindly old gentleman, who was 87 years of age, had steadily declined in health following the death of his wife almost three years ago. The Rev. C. H. Rose and the Rev. Alvis Bell officiated at funeral rites held at 10 a.m. Monday, December 24, at the Pete E. Etlinger funeral home. Etlinger was in charge of arrangements. Named as pallbearers for interment at Oak Knoll cemetery, were Joe A. Peschke, Gus Goebel, Chris Seyer, Wm. E. A. Melnscher, Reese Willrodt and Elgin Ueckert. One of Bellville’s best known men, Judge Wehring was born in the Ives Creek Community October 1, 1875, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Wehring. He attended the old Travis school, and for many years was in the grocery business here. He was named to the office of Justice of the Peace in 1937, and was re-elected continuously ever since. Mr. Wehring was a member of St. John’s Lutheran church, of Concordia, and was an honorary member of the Bellville Volunteer Fire Department. Bellville firemen participated in the funeral rites Monday. Mr. Wehring was married to Miss Lula Wright January 1, 1896, who preceded him in death February 13, 1918. On January 7, 1919, he was married to Mrs. Emma Frank, who died March 30, 1960. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Anne Spencer of Bellville, Mrs. Joe Turner and Mrs. P. T. Good of Houston; two sons John C. Wehring of Longview, Washington, and F. L. Frank of Houston, two sisters, Mrs. Charles Jones and Mrs. Erich Erickson, both of Houston; a brother, Herman Wehring of La Porte; 15 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
