Funeral services for Mrs. Lena M. Suhr, 103, of Cat Spring, were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 24 from the Chapel of the Pete E. Etlinger Funeral Home in Bellville with the Rev. Charles Danheim officiating.
Burial was in the Cat Spring Cemetery. Mrs. Suhr was the oldest resident of Austin County at the time of her death. Pallbearers were Allen Ladig, Lee Ladig, Wesley Ladig, Howard Bradshaw, Francis Miksovsky and Jack Freeman. Mrs. Suhr died at 3 a.m. on Friday, Jan 23, 1987 at Sweetbriar Nursing Home in Bellville. She had attained the age of 103 years 11 months and 20 days. She was born Feb. 3, 1883 in Cat Spring, the daughter of Charles and Christine (Schroeder) Ladig Sr. She was raised at Cat Spring and attended Clarksville Public School. A housewife, she also served as assistant Postmaster at Cat Spring. On March 1, 1926, she was married to Hugo Suhr in Brenham. Mrs. Suhr was a member of the Bellville United Methodist Church. Survivors include: daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Fritz Engelking of Cat Spring; granddaughter and husband, Lynn and Danny Johnson of Portland, Ore.; great grandchildren, Sally and Emily Johnson.
