Robert Ernest Stafford, Jr. 83, of Bellville was called home by his Heavenly Father on April 7, 2013. He was born on Sept. 5, 1929 in Houston and joyfully greeted by his parents Robert Ernest and Beulah Chatham Stafford. Robert graduated from Bellville High School in 1946. Robert “R.E.” Stafford, Jr. married his beloved wife Dorothy Constance on Dec. 18, 1949 in Denver, Colo. They met while Robert was stationed at Lowry Air Force Base in Denver. They celebrated 63 years of marriage. Robert E. Stafford, Jr. is survived by his wife Dorothy C. Newman Stafford, daughter Kathleen Elizabeth Satterwhite (Michael) of Bellville, daughter Sharon Kay Whitley (Michael) of Victoria; three grandchildren, Valerie Elizabeth Meyers, of Houston, Michael Doyle Satterwhite II, of Bellville and Tyler Austin Satterwhite of Bellville; sister Virginia Ann Roberts (Bob) of Garfield, and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. Robert was reunited in Heaven with his parents Robert Ernest Stafford, Sr. and Beulah Chatham Stafford, granddaughter, Erin Michelle Meyers and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Robert proudly served in the Air Force and was a Korean War Veteran. Robert served in the regular USAF where he received his Korean Presidential U.S. Citation (June 27,1950), Korean Service Medal (March 29,1951), and Good Conduct medal (Stafford. 29,1951). He then served in the USAF Active Reserves for 3 years and USAF Inactive Reserves for 5 years. Robert E. Stafford, Jr. retired from the Texas Department of Highways and Transportation after more than 25 years of service. Robert was a member of the Masonic Lodge number #233 of Bellville and a Past Master of the Lodge. He was also a member of the American Legion Post # 0115 of Bellville, TX. A devout Christian, Robert was ordained a Deacon by the First Baptist Church of Sealy on June 6, 2005. Most of his church years, Robert was a member of First Baptist Church of Bellville. He and his wife enjoyed RV traveling and were Lifetime Members of Good Sam’s Club. They were also members of the Go-Slow Sam’s Group, and Robert served as chaplain of this group in 2009. Robert enjoyed painting, growing plants, singing and telling stories. His family served as founding fathers in Bellville and at First Baptist Church of Bellville. Robert was a 9 year colon cancer survivor, and he served his wife tirelessly after her diagnosis of dementia.
