THE BELLVILLE TIMES
17 June 1915 News clipping: On last Thursday afternoon the body of August Schroeder was found near a water tank on Henry Frank's place, about 2 1/2 miles northeast of town. Upon the finding of the body, sheriff J. D. Palm and justice E. A. Wammel were summoned to the scene, as was Dr. O. E. Steck, who is of the opinion that death was caused from excessive drink and exposure to the hot sun. There appear to be conflicting statements in regard to the matter. One version given the TIMES reporter was the effect that Schroeder, Edwin Brockmann and Henry Frank had been down to fish in the tank that morning and that the two went to dinner leaving Schroeder there. He was found about 2 p.m. by Max Frank, who seeing his serious condition went for assistance, and the party on returning found Schroeder dead. Interment was made Friday afternoon at pilgrims rest. Justice Wammel officiating. The deceased was a little more than 32 years and nine months old. He leaves a wife and two children, a father and mother, 3 brothers, 6 sisters. His home has been made on the Wm. Hildebrandt place on the Buckhorn prairie. Posted by Barbara Val |
