Tom Sandel was born to Harvey B. and Hattie (Neason) Sandel in Shiro, Texas on Oct. 4, 1923. He passed away at his home on Jan. 21, 2014. Tom served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from May 26, 1944 until May 16, 1946. Tom served at the following vessels and stations: NTS Camp Wallace, Texas, USS Gillis (AVD 12), USS San Juan (CL 54) and PSC USNB, Bremerton, Wn. He was awarded the following medals: Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal, the American Area Campaign Medal and World War II Victory Medal. Tom was an Accountant for Exxon for 35 years until his retirement in 1982. He was a member of Bellville United Methodist Church. Tom is preceded in death by his parents; Harvey and Hattie Sandel; sisters, Patsy Fuller and Mary Casey and brother, Wayne Sandel. He is survived by the mother of his children, Helen Sandel of Athens, Texas; daughters, Shelly Manee and husband, Robert of Laguna Beach, Calif. and Becky Sandel of Athens, Texas; son, Kelly Sandel and wife, Texas; grandchildren, Amy, Kaley and Nathan Sandel and Stephen and Katy Manee. Funeral Service was at 10 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 27, 2014 at Bellville United Methodist Church, 234 Masonic St., Bellville, Texas with Rev. Malcolm Monroe officiating. Interment was at 1:45 p.m. on Monday, January 27, 2014 at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr., Houston, TX 77038. Funeral arrangements under the direction of Knesek Bros.
