Obituary
2013
On June 10, 2013, Matthew "Matt" Glenn Purcell, 47, passed away on Monday, June 10, 2013, receiving the peace he had longed for in his short life. Services will be at 2 p.m., Friday, June 14, 2013, Bellville, Texas First United Methodist Church. The service will be conducted by Jack Meeker, Teaching Pastor, Cowboy Church, Brenham Texas. Matt suffered from severe Scoliosis for most of his life.
His body will be cremated and his ashes will be buried on the grave of his dearest Aunt Margie and Uncle Hubert at Spring Creek Cemetery in Avoca, Texas. Matt was born in Lubbock, Texas and grew up in Lake Jackson, Texas, in a big house poised on the banks of Oyster Creek. As a child, he and his special boyhood pals spent 1000's of hours swimming, canoeing, fishing, in those waters. He would have to forced to come in when it got dark, and it did not matter the weather was hot, cold, pouring rain, or dry. Matt's greatest joys in life were the people and places that allowed him to spend as much time outdoors as humanly possible. He signed his letters, notes and texts with "Woods'n Water" because that was what he loved most. His vacations and week-ends were spent either fishing or hunting, or both. Matt learned to fish when just a toddler with his Aunt Margie and Uncle Hubert at Lake Stamford and the Llano River, and he eagerly awaited the many trips he would make with his family from Lake Jackson to west Texas and the Llano, year after year. Long after the years of his youth, he continued his treks to the Llano and west Texas at every opportunity. Matt's laughs, though infrequent, were so distinctive that when you heard them, you knew they were genuine and heartfelt. Matt had a genuinely sweet and gentle nature and an unconditional love for his family and friends. Matt graduated from Lake Jackson, Texas Brazoswood High School in 1984. He studied Air Conditioning and Electrical skills at Kilgore College, receiving his certification in 1988. He worked for the Brenham Independent School District for the last 13 years. Matt was a member of and baptized in the Cowboy Church, Brenham Texas. Matt was preceded in death by his beloved Aunt Margie and Uncle Hubert Bell; grandmother, "Gran Betty" Grimes; grandfather, Will H. Grimes; grandparents, Glenn and Mary Ellen Purcell, of Houston; and his best, four-legged friend, Claudia, for whom he mourned the rest of his life. He is survived by his mother, Carol Lee Poush and husband, Ken; father, Richard Purcell and wife, Nelda; sisters and brothers-in-law, Paige Price and husband, Paul, and Allyson and Tony Purcell; nephew, Rick Purcell; nieces, Carlee Purcell, Haley Heath, and Abigail Peterson; great-niece, Alleigh Heath; cousin, Cayden Hutchison; step-brothers, David Poush and Benjamin Poush; step-sisters, Kathleen Peterson, Deidra Amato and Cheri Couch; uncle and aunts, Van and Kathleen Grimes, of Ft. Worth, Gayle Hutchison, of Stamford, and Gaye Harkins, of Chappel Hill; cousins from Clyde, Texas, Ira Sue Bell, Jane and Ted Dement, and June and Ernest Park; all the Dement and Park children; and cousins, Ted Riggs and Melanie Holton. |
