Karen Ann Stubbs Peacock, 60, died at home in Bellville, surrounded by family members, on Dec. 2, after a long, courageous battle with cancer.

Karen was born on April 27, 1954, in San Diego, Calif. She was educated in Port Arthur schools, graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1972. She graduated from Lamar University in 1980 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. A dedicated, passionate and supportive teacher for 25 years, Karen taught in Port Arthur, Nederland and Katy Independent School Districts and briefly in Austin, Texas. After retirement, she taught in Bible School at Bellville United Methodist Church and mentored children at O’Bryant Elementary School in Bellville.

Karen was a loving daughter, mother, wife, sister and friend. Her greatest role was being a“Granny” to all the children in her family. Her philosophy was always that the cup was half-full. Her sense of humor was contagious; she laughed easily and made other people laugh. Without judgment, she went above and beyond for all of her family and friends through the best and worst of times. She will, without a doubt, be profoundly missed by all of those who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her husband Alan Peacock of Bellville, Texas; her parents Bill and Patsy Stubbs of Port Arthur; her mother-in-law Winifred Wallentine of Bellville; and by her children Brian Nunnelly of Port Neches, and Emily Peacock and Sara Peacock of Houston. She is also survived by her sisters Lesley Stubbs, Kay Stubbs, Lyndi Reed and husband Dave, Kellie Davidson and husband Vernon, and by her grandchildren Jace, Seth and Kail Nunnelly, and by many other family members in Bellville, Port Arthur, and Houston.

A memorial service was held on Friday, Dec. 5, 2014, at 1 p.m. at the Bellville United Methodist Church, 234 South Masonic, Bellville, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation in her honor to any organization or charity dedicated to feeding children.
