Lu Ellen Froebel Luedke, 95, of Bellville, passed away Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, in a Brenham hospital. Lu Ellen was born May 13, 1917, in Bellville, the daughter of W.H. and Leontine Pless Froebel. She was baptized Sept. 23, 1917, at St. John Lutheran Church in Cat Spring, and confirmed April 9, 1933, at St. John Lutheran Church in Bellville. She grew up and attended school in Bellville graduating from Bellville High School in 1935. Lu Ellen married Ervin Luedke on Sept. 22, 1937, in Bellville where they made their home and were members of St. John Lutheran Church. Ervin preceded Lu Ellen in death in July 1974. Lu Ellen went to work for A.T. Clark Rexall Drug Store where she was employed as a clerk. The business sold to Mr. Paul Engeling and was renamed Paul’s Pharmacy. Lu Ellen retired after 40 years. She then worked for the Tot-Teen Store for a while before going to work at the Bellville Junior High Cafeteria where she was employed for 15 years. Never one to sit around, Lu Ellen then volunteered at St. John’s where she helped fold the bulletins. She enjoyed playing cards twice a week with her friend and playing Bingo. Lu Ellen is survived by her sons Don Luedke and his wife, Judy, and J.W. Luedke and his wife, Paula; grandchildren John Luedke, Al LeBlanc, Michael Luedke and his wife, Christi, Brandon Luedke and his wife, Rebecca, Chad Luedke and Amanda Zapalac, Kendra Dugas Mikeska and her husband, Chad; and great grandchildren Darcy, Chloe, Chandler and Emma. Also surviving Lu Ellen is her sister Waldine Lipsey; brothers Lee Vernon Froebel and Willie Froebel and his wife, Fay; and many other relatives and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ervin, daughter, Shirley Luedke Dugas, great granddaughter, Elizabeth Luedke and sister, Ella Mae Koehn. Visitation:, 3-5 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, Schmidt Funeral Home Chapel, Bellville. Funeral service: 2 p.m., Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, St. John Lutheran Church, Bellville, Pastor Jennie Jones and Pastor David Henske, officiating Interment: Pilgrims Rest Cemetery, Bellville.
