Irene Hattie Ludwig passed away Monday, June 16, 2014 at her home in Mobile, Ala. Mrs. Irene Ludwig was born on Jan. 15, 1925 to Marie and Joe Vazansky in Wallis. Irene was one of seven siblings brought up on a farm. Irene graduated from Wallis High School. Irene spent most of her adult life in Milheim having married the love of her life William Karl Ludwig. Irene and Bill were members of Saint Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Bellville for more than 25 years. Irene’s greatest strength was her love and belief in God. Irene loved being a stay at home mom taking great care of all her children. She also loved living in the country gardening and ranching with her family. Irene loved to cook and bake for her family. Irene baked all the great “Czech” pastries. After the passing of Bill Ludwig, Irene moved to Mobile, Ala. to be close to her oldest daughter, Theresa Russell, and her family. The Russell family was blessed to have grandma near, as she loved to help in the kitchen and to run errands for the family. Irene was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bill Ludwig, daughter Elaine Fitzgerald and 5 of her siblings. She is survived by her sister Hattie Divin and her children, Jean Nichols, William Ludwig, Theresa Russell, Virginia Scott, Olin Ludwig, Ron Ludwig, and David Ludwig. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. Visitation and rosary were held Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at 6 p.m.at Knesek Funeral Chapel in Sealy. Funeral services were held Thursday, June 19, 2014 at 2 p.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sealy. Rev. Eric Pitre celebrated the Funeral Mass and Rite of Committal. Interment was held at the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Sealy. Friends who wish may make memorial gifts to the American Heart Association.
