Schultz, Gilbert James
Obituary
2019
After a brief but heroic fight, Gilbert “Guy” James Schultz, took what we can only imagine was his most awesome flight home on Friday, May 3, 2019, to those family and friends who preceded him in death. Friends and family surrounded Guy at the time of his passing.
Guy, the youngest of two, was born in Madison, Wisconsin, and grew up on Lake Mendota. He was the son of Sidonie Elizabeth Many and Gilbert Jacob Schultz, and little brother to Sidonie “Sis” Kirkland. Guy & Sis had a great childhood swimming, sailing, ice skating, and many other adventures together. After his father joined the Navy to serve in WWII as a SeaBee, the rest of the family moved to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. In 1944, at the age of 15, his Grandfather passed away, and coming home to Wisconsin for the funeral on a Navy plane, his father, Gilbert Jacob Schultz, perished when the aircraft hit a mountain. Guy attended military school in Mississippi in 1948. He entered the US Air Force in 1950 where he became a fighter pilot and served his country until he retired in 1972 as a Lt. Colonel. He received many honors, including two flying crosses. Guy married Marjorie Ellen Harris of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida on February 12, 1955. Soon after starting their life together, they were stationed in Nagoya, Japan. Guy and Margie have 4 children, Leigh Ann, born in Japan; Darcy and Lisa born in Georgia; and (Little) Guy, born in Montana. The family enjoyed much travel, many relocations, and made great friends through the military. In 1972, after retiring from the USAF, Guy, his wife, 4 children, 3 horses, a dog, and 2 goldfish in a coffee can, made their way to Bellville, Texas to start a new chapter. Guy owned and managed Bellville Abstract Company from 1972 until 1999. He continued to work until 2001 when he handed the throttle to his daughter, Leigh Ann. Bellville is where he became involved in many community activities and organizations, including Bellville United Methodist Church, Bellville Lions Club, and the VFW. He is survived by his children, Leigh Ann Schultz, Darcy and husband, Norman Kiecke, Lisa Schultz, Colonel Guy C. Schultz, retired US Army and his wife, Marianne; his grandchildren, Ashley and husband, Ryan Malone, Captain Courtney Killian and husband, Major James Killian, USAF pilot, Captain Chase Kiecke and wife, Brooke, Paige and husband, Garrett Huebner, Rhea Kiecke, Sarah Schultz, and Stella Schultz.
