Charles “Charlie” Larkin Seely, 55, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2014, while surrounded by his wife, children, and their spouses at Sugar Land Methodist Hospital from cardiac and respiratory failure. Charlie is predeceased by his parents, Wallace and Esther Seely, and his sister, Joanne Sheard, all from Sugar Land. Charlie is survived by his wife, Vicki Seely, and his children, Matthew (his wife, Carey, and children, Brendan and Brylee), Carrie (her husband, Jason, and children, Carter and Sidney), Kelli, Cassie (her husband, Mike, and children, Brianna, Luke, and Lane), Amanda (her husband, James, and daughter, Ella), and Charles, Jr. (his wife, Kelly, and son Connor). Charlie and Vicki wed in November 1990, bringing two families together into one. Blending personalities and names, the Seely family grew in numbers with grandchildren, who knew him only as Poppy. Numerous other family and friends lovingly remember him. Charlie was born in Sugar Land in 1959. A career lawman, Charlie served the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office, Sealy Police Department, Sugar Land Police Department, and Richmond Police Department. Most comfortable as a street cop, Charlie also worked as a bailiff and detective. While proudly serving his community in this way for more than 25 years, Charlie was truly at home donning his customary overalls in a livestock show arena. Charlie spent his life devoted to children and animals. A dedicated swine, lamb, and goat man, many area livestock shows and county fairs saw Poppy observing his family and friends showing their animals. Charlie encouraged countless class winners, grand champions, and showmanship award winners. Charlie shared his love of animals with his wife, as they raised a variety of show livestock and Labrador Retrievers. Many families came to Charlie and Vicki for furry, four-legged additions to their families. A memorial service to celebrate Charlie’s life will be held on Friday, Nov. 14, 2014, at 4 p.m. at Sugar Creek Baptist Church located at 13223 Southwest Freeway, Sugar Land, Texas. Pastor and Police Chaplain Clif Cummings will conduct the service. Those planning to attend may wear uniforms, overalls, 4-H green, or FFA blue as a tribute to Charlie. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to one of the following: • Fort Bend County Fair Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 428, Rosenberg, Texas 77471 • Austin County Fair Goat Project, P.O. Box 141, Bellville, Texas 77418. Posted by Bruce White |
