Estella Elizabeth Heintschel 95, was born and raised in Cat Spring. She was born on Dec. 7, 1917 and passed away on June 17, 2013 in Bellville. Survivors include her Daughter, Patricia Grigar and husband Wayne of Sealy, son, Kirby Heintschel of Cat Spring, grandchildren, Kimbra Hill and husband Welton, Kellie Machala and husband Ron, great-grandchildren, Lauren Kay Machala, Noah Ellis Hill and Jordan Beth Hill. Preceded in death by her parents, Oswald and Ida Schwanbeck, husband, Arthur Heintschel, sisters, Leona Doering and Norma Schwanbeck, great grandson, Paul Gundy. The best way to describe Estella is to say she lived simply and was a living example of Galatians 5:22-23 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” She took time to read her Bible every day. In it you would find many notes, prayers and scripture references tucked away. No matter what obstacle she was faced with she would turn to faith and prayer. Estella volunteered at church throughout her life, she was a Sunday school teacher, she served at the annual church barbeque, baked for ladies aid, and many other areas. She loved her family and treasured it as her greatest blessing. Gardening, cooking, canning and sharing home-grown and homemade gifts brought her joy. She looked forward to her “hair appointment” every Friday afternoon. She didn’t go to a fancy salon. She went to the same antique vanity set up in the back bedroom of her house. She would have Kellie and Kimbra there. Their job was to set up the bobby pins, combs and hairspray and take the rollers out of her hair before the stylist arrived. Her daughter, Patricia, was the stylist. On Fridays, as soon as Patricia finished at work, she went to Estella’s house. The fresh coffee was brewing and the delicious smell of a homemade dessert filled the air. Many times it was coffeecake, sometimes her delicious lemon pie, but whatever it was everyone always hoped to get a second serving! If you knew Estella, you knew about her beautiful garden. Working with her flowers and vegetables gave her great joy and times of peace. She liked planting flowering sweet pea vines and zinnias, but grew them on the side of the house that she couldn’t see from her kitchen window. She said she didn’t plant them for herself, but for others who drive by to enjoy. She and Arthur loved to dance. She also liked participating in celebrations of her German heritage and traditions. Her lifestyle was simple but gave her contentment. She believed our lives on earth were a time for the Lord to prepare us for our beautiful birthday in heaven. Posted by Joy Neely |
