Obituary
2017
Marie Brune, 96, formally known as Alice Marie Washam Brune, passed away . She was born on to John Everett and Alice Pauline Crawford Washam as one of 8 children. She grew up in the Buckhorn community near Bellville, Texas. At age 19, Marie worked in Houston at First National Bank. At night, she took accounting classes at the University of Houston. She then worked many years at Southern Pacific Railroad. Upon a visit home to Bellville, she met Herbert James Brune who had returned from service in the Phillippines during World War II. They married March 1, 1952. They had one daughter, Carolyn Marie, and one son, James Edward, who died one day after birth.
Marie became a Christian at age 15 at a Baptist revival. Her faith influenced many in her family, most of all her husband and daughter, who came to a personal relationship with Christ because of her witness. She taught children's Sunday School many years. She was service-minded, volunteering in her church and in many organizations as a bookkeeper, including Peters Elementary School until it closed. She was a wonderful wife and mother who never spoke ugly words to her husband or daughter, although they would know she was upset by her silence. She loved inspirational articles and poetry, filling many notebooks with her favorites. Some favorite verses marked in her Bible were II Corinthians 4:16-18, Ephesians 6:12-13, Phllippians 4:12-13, and Psalms 139:1-16. She was smart and capable at so many things. She was a great communicator and counselor. She was an excellent seamstress and avid gardener. She loved the wide open spaces of their homestead and would work long hours in her flower beds or garden. No matter her age, she maintained grace and style. Her husband would say "she's little but you know she's 'round' here." She is deeply loved and will be greatly missed. Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert James, and her brother and sisters, John Washam, Varnell Jasek, Louise Wietstruck, Thomas Washam, Charlene Cannon, Hazel Holba, and Hettie Falk. She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Marie Gribble, and son-in-law, Jim, and her grandchildren, Jennifer Gribble of Denver, Colorado, Daniel Gribble of Boston, Massachusetts, and Samuel Gribble of Houston, Texas. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Sunday, January 29, 2017, at First Baptist Church of Sealy, 707 8th Street Sealy, TX 77474. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, January 30, 2017, at First Baptist Church of Sealy. Interment will follow at Sealy Cemetery. |
