Funeral services for Wilfred “Sonny” Sontag of Bellville, were held on Monday, Dec. 8, 2014 at 10 a.m. at Knesek Brothers Funeral Home with Pastor Dale Leland officiating. Interment followed at Millheim Cemetery in Millheim. Serving as pallbearers were Travis Sontag, Shaye Sontag, Ronnie Sontag, Jimmy Ortiz, Oscar Guzman, and Tony Mewis. Serving as Honorary pallbearers were Michael Fentress and Brandon Sontag. On Oct. 11, 1932, Sonny was born to Willie Sontag and Bertha Miller Sontag and was raised in the Ives Creek Community in Bellville. On Jan. 12, 1959, Sonny was joined in marriage to Joyce Mersman Walker with the ceremony being held in Houston. Together, they had five children, Donna Parker, Randall Walker, Ronald Sontag, Robert Sontag, and Russell Sontag. In 1953, Sonny joined the Army and served a two year term in Pennsylvania. After leaving the military, he worked as a truck driver, served as Constable for Glena Park, and also served as a volunteer fire fighter in Houston. After retiring in 1985, Sonny enjoyed hobbies such as wood working, air conditioning work, playing cards and dominoes with close friends and family, traveling, and dancing. Sonny passed away on Dec. 2, 2014 at the Colonial Belle Nursing Home in Bellville. He is proceeded in death by his parents, Willie and Bertha Sontag; wife, Joyce Sontag; and Sisters: Alma Frank and Ellie Mae Sontag. He is survived by daughter Donna Parker of Bellville; sons Randall Walker and wife Pam of Bellville; Ronald Sontag and wife Ann of Katy; Robert Sontag of Caldwell and Russell Sontag of Sealy; grandchildren Jimmy, Michael Rita, Shaye, Bonnie, Travis, Patricia, Ronnie and Brandon; great grandchildren Kyle, Mya, Lily, Amy, Kiley, and Natalee, and several nieces and nephews.
