Novie Sauer Taylor was born on April 17, 1920, in Tenaha, Texas, the daughter of Curt Phillip and Ella Berta Adams Sauer. She moved to the Houston Heights at a young age and graduated from Regan High School. Novie earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin. She worked as an executive secretary at Exxon before returning to school at the University of Houston to obtain her teacher certification. She then taught at Oak Forest Elementary in Houston until she retired where she was a member of the Fun-Fun Club and Texas State Teachers’ Association. A Christian by faith, Novie was united in marriage to William B. Taylor, on Nov. 15, 1947, in Houston. Where they were members of the Oak Forest Presbyterian Church. Novie and Buck made their home in Houston running Taylor Wholesale Florist before moving to Cat Spring in 2001. Called Granny by all who knew her, she enjoyed gardening, cooking, and painting her artwork. Granny passed away on Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at her home in Cat Spring, surrounded by people who loved her. She is survived by her sons Keith Taylor of Houston and Curt Taylor and his wife, MaryEllen, of Cat Spring; grandchildren Marie T. Peoples, Steven B. Taylor, Curt H. Taylor, M. Elisabeth Taylor, Brennan K. Taylor and Katy L. Taylor. Granny is also survived by her 7 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband-William B. Taylor, parents-Curt and Ella Sauer, and brother-C.P. Sauer.
