Diane Lynette Spencer Rhine, 67, passed away March 2, 2015 in the comfort of her home. A memorial service has been scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 7, 2015 at Christ Lutheran Church with Pastor Mark Groves officiating. Visitation is scheduled for Friday evening from 5:00 – 7:00 at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Diane Rhine was born July 17, 1947 in Houston, Texas to loving parents Horace and Marie Spencer. Born and raised in Houston, she graduated from Sam Houston High School in 1965 and attended Southwest Texas State thereafter. On June 9, 1978, Diane married the love of her life and soul mate, Jack Rhine. Together they loved to travel and enjoy life. Their adventures took them across the country from Maine to Colorado and Wyoming, as well as one of her favorite destinations – Alaska – which they visited more than once. Diane, although born a city girl, became a country girl at heart when she moved to Industry, Texas in 1984. She enjoyed working with cattle and a simpler country life. As with any new adventure, she immediately immersed herself into the community. Her life was one devoted to service and helping others. She never met a stranger and had a way of making everyone feel special and loved. She joined the local Extension Education Association and was an active member for over 30 years. For several years, she served on the Austin County Fair Board of Directors; a position she thoroughly enjoyed. She was a member of Aggie Mom’s Club and delighted in being part of this journey with her daughter, Kimberly. Many hours were spent baking communion bread for Sunday services, volunteering or serving when needed at the church, and serving on the Christ Lutheran Day School Board. Genealogy was an avid hobby of hers and countless hours were spent tracing family lineages. This passion also led Diane and Jack on adventures around the country in search of the next puzzle piece of family histories. In this pursuit, she joined the Spencer Historical Society and served as treasurer. She was a proud member of DRT – The Daughters of the Republic of Texas and DAR – The Daughters of the American Revolution. On top of all of her accomplishments and achievements, the crowning moment of her life was the birth of her grandson Parker, which gave her the honored title of “Sugar”. Countless hours were spent playing, painting, exploring, and living life through the eyes of a child. She relished every moment spent with the center of her universe. Her only regret was that the countless plans she had for the two of them will go unfulfilled. Survivors include her loving husband Jack G. Rhine; daughter and son-in-law Kimberly McPherson Kenjura and husband Gregory and grandson Parker Harrison of Brenham, Texas; brother and sister-in-law Robert Spencer and Carolyn of Seabrook, Texas; nephew Erik Spencer and friend Loan Tran, as well as many treasured cousins and special family friends. She was preceded in death by her parents. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Robert Spencer, Gregory Kenjura, Johnny Dlouhy, Charles Leamons, Perry Post, and Robert Hajek. Memorials may be directed to The American Cancer Society, Christ Lutheran Day School or Hospice Brazos Valley.
