Warburton Dorris Ruth (Schier) Warburton, 80, of Bellville passed away Monday, Jan. 12, 2015, in Bryan. She was born Aug. 22, 1934, in Sealy,, the daughter of Elmore and Ruth (Hood) Schier. Dorris grew up and attended schools in the Sealy and Eagle Lake area. In January of 1954, Dorris was united in marriage to Bruce Lane Warburton, in Falfurrias. She was enrolled in Southwest Texas State Teacher’s College in San Marcos, now known as Texas State University, to finish up her degree in teaching, where she majored in English and minored in Spanish. At the age of 21, Dorris graduated college and went on to teach at Edwards Air Force Base, in California. In 1955, they welcomed their first son, James. In 1956, Dorris and Bruce moved to Corpus Christi until 1960, when they moved to Louisville, Kent. She was in luck, the person that was teaching could not handle the job, so Dorris was able to step in and finished her position. She enjoyed teaching at Seneca High School, where she taught Diane Sawyer. In 1963, they moved to their dream home, in Fern Creek, Kent. In 1964, they welcomed their second son, Robert. Dorris was an English teacher at Highland Park High School from 1968 until 1994, and she had a real knack for teaching male students and one of her female students was Angie Harmon. Dorris enjoyed her trips to England; the first was with her mother and the second trip was with Bruce. She also enjoyed her “non-human” family. Dorris had a love for dogs, especially black Cocker Spaniels. She would take in dogs and nurse some of them back to health if needed. Dorris was a “guest“columnist for The Sealy News in 2010. She produced an article called, “Sealy Woman Recalls Childhood in Great Depression Years.” Some of the things she had a recollection about were the drives from Eagle Lake to Sealy. The cost of candy and popcorn at the Texas Theater and that the sidewalks downtown were wood. These were just some of the things that were talked about. Dorris is survived by her sons: James “Jim” Warburton of Bellville and Robert Warburton and his wife, Tracie, of Gladewater; grandchildren: Dorrie and Layne Warburton, both of Gladewater; sister: Evelyn Boggan of Brenham and brother: John Schier and his wife, Pat, of Austin, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Lane Warburton, in 2012, parents, Elmore and Ruth Schier, two brothers-in-law, two sisters-in-law, a nephew and her Aunt Myrtle Krampitz. Memorial service was held at 6 p.m.., Thursday, Jan. 15, 2015, at the Schmidt Funeral Home Chapel in Bellville, with Pastor Malcolm Monroe officiating.
