Clifford Arthur "Kip" Reddick passed away on November 18, 2016 in Bellville, Texas at Colonial Bell Rehab Center at the age of 93.
He was born to Lee Roy and Mary August Reddick in Houston, Texas on March 22, 1923. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. After basic training, he was sent to the Philippine Islands. He was taken prisoner of war by Japan at the fall of Corregidor on May 6, 1942 and held prisoner for 3 ½ years in a number of different prisoner camps. At the end of the War, he raised an American Flag that he and some of fellow Marines made out of scrap material. After discharge, he followed his father and grandfathers' line of work in construction as a cement mason of local 681. On November 4, 1946, he married Ida Mae Hegemeyer. After retiring and moving to New Ulm, Texas in 1987, he spent his time raising cattle and making furniture out of cedar wood. He was a member of XPOW and VFW. Survived by wife of 70 years and 14 days, Ida Mae; one daughter, Dorothy Sanders and husband, Doyle; one son, Wilbur "Bill" and wife, Marilyn Reddick; and 4 grandchildren, Ronnie Greenhouse Jr., Celece Blackburn, Sunnie Sidera, and Cliff Reddick; four great-grandchildren; sister, Johnnie Faye Ramsden of Huffman; brother and sister-in-law, Kermit and Verlien Kolwes. Preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Dorothy Lipp and Lula Mae Elam; brothers, Wilbur Raymond Reddick who was killed in The Battle of Okinawa, Gus W. Reddick, and Charlie H. Reddick. Special thank you to Marilyn King and Novella King for their assistance they provided for his care at home for 2 years, Pastor Glenn Hohlt of St. John Lutheran Church New Ulm, Texas for his wonderful fairwell message for Clifford. A visitation with the family will be held at Knesek Bros Funeral Chapels, 842 East Main in Bellville, TX on Monday, November 21, 2016, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A funeral service will be held at Knesek Bros Funeral Chapels on Tuesday, November 22, 2016, at 11:00 AM, with Rev. Glenn Holdt officiating. Interment will follow at Star Hill Cemetery in New Ulm, TX. Memorials made to American Ex-prisoners of War, 3201 East Pioneer Parkway #40, Arlington, Texas 76010-5396.
