Henry Werno Luhn was born May 30, 1928, to parents Werno Adolph and Johanna Goebel Luhn in the Coshatte Community outside of Bellville. He passed away April 22, 2013, at the age of 84 years, 10 months and 22 days. Henry was raised in the Coshatte and Bellville communities of Austin County. He started school when he was nine years old at the Coshatte School. In the fourth grade, he transferred to the Bellville Elementary School. After graduating from Bellville High School in 1949, he attended Blinn Junior College in Brenham and received an Associate Arts Degree on June 4, 1951. He later transferred to Sam Houston Teachers College and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Library Science on June 25, 1958. During his Bellville High School and Blinn College years, Henry was actively involved as a manager for the football teams. He loved sports and followed the football and baseball teams in the newspapers. Henry worked at several jobs during his lifetime including a laundry mat, recreation center and the golf pro shop, as his handicap permitted. He lived a simple life with his mother, until she passed away Dec. 26, 1984. The later part of his adult life was spent mostly homebound due to his physical instability, considerable hearing loss and his inability to walk without assistance. In March 2006, Henry moved to the Colonial Belle Nursing Home in Bellville. Henry never let his handicap slow him down. He always had a friendly smile, and as a result, he never met a stranger, and made many friends. He loved to play cards and dominos with his buddies, reading the Chronicle and keeping up with current events. He also loved sports, working crossword puzzles and putting together jigsaw puzzles. Henry is survived by his brother Robert Earl Luhn and his wife, Vernice Krumrey Luhn, of Bellville; nieces Hanna J Loehr Schroyer and her husband, Steve, Cynthia Luhn Hempel and her husband, Mark, Donna Luhn Gammenthaler and her husband, Brian; nephew Tom Loehr and his wife, Susan; great nephews and great nieces Geoffrey Schroyer, Justin Schroyer, Evan Loehr, Adam Hempel, Katie Hempel, Kyle Gammenthaler and his wife, Mandy, Amy Gammenthaler and Kevin Gammenthaler; and many cousins, other relatives and dear friends.
