After a short battle with cancer and a much longer struggle with COPD, the loving husband of Betty Winkler, has succumbed from this earth. This Capricorn was born on Jan. 4, 1939 in Houston on a snowy wintry day. This cradle Catholic was educated at All Saints and Blessed Sacrament Schools, St. Thomas High School and the University of Houston. His elongated career with The Upjohn Co. and Dow Chemical lasted for over 31 years. After his retirement, he moved from Clear Lake to Bellville, Brenham and then to Katy. He and his wife crisscrossed this country and Canada many times, the bulk in an RV, except Hawaii and Italy. A natural born hobbyist, he enjoyed numerous types of collectibles. John was also the President of Texas Region of ALPCA. He has left behind, but always in spirit, his loving wife of 18 years, son Kevin of Friendswood, John III of MA and Thomas of Houston. His extended family consists of Teri of Claremore OK, Jean of Canyon Lake and Gari of Bellville, TX. In addition, there are 4 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren, along with extended family of 6 grandchildren and also 6 great grandchildren. John was a long time member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, of which he served in the ministries as a lector for 12 years. Visitation was at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Bellville, on Thursday May 16, 2013, 5-7 p.m. Rosary followed at 7 p.m. at the church. Services were at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Bellville on Friday May 17, 2013, 10 a.m. (Mass) Interment was at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston at 3 p.m., Friday. Posted by Joy Neely |
