Romeo Louis Iselt, 97, of Bellville, passed away Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009, in a Bellville nursing facility. Born April 30, 1912, in Sealy, he was the son of William and Lillie Buechmann Iselt. He grew up in Austin County attending school in New Ulm and Industry. Romeo served his country in the United States Army in Germany and France. After his honorable discharge, he worked as a mechanic for a while but mostly, he farmed and ranched. A “jack-of-all-trades,” Romeo was a very talented man. He was a member of the Shelby American Legion, #602, and the Bellville American Legion, #442. He was also a member of the Shelby Sons of Hermann, a past member of the Industry Fire Department and volunteered at the New Ulm Fire Department and other local organizations. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish. He also loved to dance and was especially good at waltzing and the polka. Romeo was a father figure to many, especially his niece, Adeline. Romeo is survived by his wife Selma Iselt of Bellville; son Wilfred Krause of Bellville; daughters Katie Janik and her husband, James, of Alvin and Pat Hobbs and her husband, Wayne, of Caldwell; nieces Adeline Luedke of New Ulm and Sandra Holub and her husband, Jim, of West Point; nephews Doyle Iselt and his wife, Shelia, of Cypress, Kirby Iselt and his wife, Claudia, of Katy, Mike Iselt of Hempstead, Milton Ressmann of Houston, Melvin Ressmann of Brenham and Marvin Ressmann and his wife, Kathy, of California. Romeo is preceded in death by his first wife, Lillie, and his second wife, Bernice, his parents, sisters, Tonie Oldag and Norma Dahse, brothers, Lester Iselt and Elmo Iselt, and nephew, Wilfred Gross. Visitation was 5-8 p.m., on Friday, Dec. 18, 2009 at Schmidt Funeral Home in Bellville. Funeral Service was 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009 at St. John Lutheran Church with Pastor Jennie Jones, Pastor David Henske and Pastor Milroy Gregor, officiating. Pallbearers were Milton Ressmann, Kirby Iselt, Doyle Iselt, Fred Kipling, James Janik, Wayne Hobbs and Willian Sturm. Honorary Pallbearers were Shelby American Legion #602 and Bellville American Legion #442. Interment was in New Ulm Cemetery in New Ulm.
