Gary Eldon Glasscock was born to Archie Curtis Glasscock and Betty Jean Lutz in Eugene, Ore. on March 21, 1948. Gary died March 3, 2014 of cancer surrounded by his wife, Kathy, and his beloved family. Gary was born and raised in Oregon and attended Harrisburg and Newport schools, graduating from Newport High School in 1966. After he was drafted into the United States Army at the age of 19, he was deployed to Vietnam where he was honorably discharged after being wounded in combat. He received the Purple Heart for his service in the military. Gary lived for many years in Crow Oregon on his farm raising chickens and working for the post office. Gary had five daughters, Barbara, Marlo, Heather, Heidi, and Holly. His first wife and daughter preceded him in death. Gary was reunited with his childhood sweetheart Kathleen Vogel, whom he had not seen for 34 years. They were married in July 1, 1998. Gary and Kathy moved to Katy, Texas where Gary continued to work for the United States Postal Service until his retirement in May of 2012. After his retirement, Gary and Kathy moved to Bellville where he lived until his death. Gary worked as a mail carrier for over 29 years. In his spare time, he enjoyed investing in real estate, fishing, brewing beer and golfing. Always willing to help others, he was continually repairing things around his sons-in-law’s houses that otherwise would not be done correctly. Gary was truly a kind and generous soul. Gary was preceded in death by his father, Archie, brother, Kenneth, first wife, Wanda Lee Childs, and daughter, Heather Renee Glasscock. He is survived by his mother, Betty, wife, Kathy, daughters, Barbara (Michael) Beutler, Marlo Martin, Heidi Glasscock, Holly (William) Aiman, four step-daughters, Shawna (John) Powell, Stephanie (Robert) Lubianski, Sarah (Jeff) Hill, and Dianna (Rick) High, and 13 grandchildren. Gary has six surviving siblings, Cheri (Kevin) Snyder, Dale, Connie (Doug) Rawson, Tommy (Kathy), Stephen (Teresa), David (Cheryl) and James (Barb). A family memorial service will be held in Bellville on March 16th. Gary’s ashes will be spread at his family’s farm in Newport, Oregon during their family reunion this summer. Posted by Joy Neely |
