Thera Cocke Fonville, 94, passed away Friday, Nov. 14, 2003 in Bellville. She was born April 15, 1909 in Granger, Texas. She graduated from Granger High School and received her B.A. degree from Southwestern University in 1927. She earned her Masters degree from the University of Texas in 1930, and taught English for 40 years in Beaumont, Jacksonville, San Augustine and Nacogdoches. She retired from Houston ISD in 1970. Mrs. Fonville was a member of the Austin Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Retired Teachers Association of Lampasas, Texas. Additionally Mrs. Fonville was a past member of the Bellville Garden Club and Body Recall group. She was of the Presbyterian faith. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carrie and Chester Cocke, sister and brother in law Charlie and Frank Denson and husband, D.W. Boitnott and Fred Fonville. Among her survivors are a niece Susan Matthews and her husband Tom Matthews of Corpus Christi and a great niece Kelly Matthews of Austin. Graveside services were held Monday, Nov. 17, 2003 at 2 p.m. in Granger City Cemetery with Rev. William Sterling officiating. Posted by Joy Neely |
