Mr. Markwardt Service Held Funeral services for Lee Roy Markwardt, 58 of near Round Top were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 3, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Shelby with Rev. Don D. Vlasak officiating. Burial was in the Shelby Cemetery. Mr. Markwardt passed away at Fayette Memorial Hospital Tuesday, June 1, 1976. He had been employed as an orderly at the hospital. The deceased, son of Herman and Hulda Seibert Markwardt, was born near Shelby on Oct. 20, 1917, and married Miss Nettie Cordes at Warrenton on Jan. 1, of 1946. He was a veteran of World War II, and a lifelong resident of the Round Top-Shelby community. Surviving are his wife and his mother, both of near Round Top; a son Stuart Lee of Houston; daughter, Mrs. James B. (Barbara Jean) Smith of Houston; four brothers, Delton of Waco, Rolnd of near Carmine, Harold of Giddings and Chester of Bellville; and two grandsons, Bradley and Brent Smith of Houston. He was preceded in death by his father, a sister Helen, and a son in infancy. Mr. Markwardt remained at the Koenig Funeral Home chapel here until 9 a.m. Wednesday and at the Von Minden chapel in Round Top until noon Thursday. Submitted by Verna W. McDowell |
